Hi, I'm Volkan.

I picked up a camera for the first time back in 2016, in university — shooting concerts, mostly. Cramped venues, bad lighting, learning the hard way how to freeze motion without a flash. It wasn't travel photography, but it's where I learned to actually see light instead of just pointing at things.

Then life happened. I moved abroad, got busy with work, and the camera sat in a drawer for a while — longer than I'd like to admit.

I picked it back up in 2021, this time pointed at the world instead of a stage. Since then I've been chasing 2-3 countries a year between everything else going on — never quite a full-time nomad, never quite a weekend hobbyist either. Somewhere in between.

I'm originally from Turkey, currently based in the US, and about to uproot again — South America is next. If there's a theme to my life it's probably that I don't stay anywhere too long, and neither does this blog's next destination.

Roam and Ridge is where I put together what I shoot and what I learn along the way: the compositions that worked, the gear that made sense for a specific shot, the transit apps that saved me, the entrance gate I should've avoided. Part visual journal, part guide for the next person trying to figure out the same thing I was standing there confused about.

This started as a personal project and I'd like to keep it feeling that way — but I won't pretend I'm not hoping it grows into something more. If it helps you plan a trip or get a better shot somewhere, that's the whole point.
